I designed and built the Interactive Infographic native ad format and its corresponding builder tool within BuzzFeed’s content management system (CMS). This enables editors to easily create a sponsored post with an engaging, clickable infographic that looks and feels like organic content.

The clickable infographic was originally created as a custom ad for a partnership. As a native ad (an ad that resembles a publisher’s typical editorial content, but is paid for by an advertiser and intended to promote a product or service), it was a hit with our clients and sales team. The goal of the Interactive Infographic project was to scale and revamp the clickable infographic so that it could be easily created by our editors and generate sales as a fun and unique native ad product.
I built a tool that integrated within BuzzFeed’s CMS, where editors could upload image assets and add clickable points. Clicking these points triggered a pop-up carousel with a description, image, and button/call-to-action (CTA). I used BuzzFeed’s design system (Solid) for a seamless visual integration.

I was only an intern at the time, but I had full autonomy over the UI/UX design and engineering (under the mentorship of my manager and my team’s product designer) which was a really cool experience! Even though I was an engineering intern, I had the to opportunity to sit down with our team’s designer and even went through a condensed design review process to get feedback from other designers on Basecamp.
